Official Events Fellow Members & Harley Owners,

The "Million Mile Monday" is here again! This coming 29 June 2009 will witness another history being created in the Harley Owners Group. Members around the world will band together in a singular challenge to log a cummulative five million riding miles by the day's end.

The inaugural "Million Mile Monday" organised last year was a resounding success, thus the goal has been increased for the ride this year.

This year, Malaysia Chapter is calling all its members to take part and ride and be part of this histrocal event! But we will do it the Malaysian style.

To accumulate the mileage, we will do a charity ride to visit one of our oldest Harley Owners in Malaysia, Pak M. Rajoli, a well-known Malaysia actor, who is currently fighting against brain tumor. Below is a picture of him.

The H.O.G.® Mileage Program is beautiful in its simplicity: You ride, Harley will reward you. Harley will even give you a pin and patch just for signing up (registration is free). After that, additional pins, patches, and motorcycle medallions will be awarded at various mileage intervals. Your first award comes at just 1,000 miles (1,610 km).

Of course, there are a few rules you'll have to follow:

  • Only active H.O.G. members (full, full life, associate, and associate life) may participate.
  • If you have more than one Harley®, you have to enroll each one, and only mileage logged after you enroll will count toward your award.
  • You may participate as a rider, a passenger, or both – just be sure to fill out a form for each.
  • And (this one's important), your enrollment form and award submissions must be officially endorsed by an authorized Harley-Davidson® dealer. However, it is still your responsibility to submit them once they are endorsed.

So what are you waiting for? Get out and start riding – but not before you get yourself enrolled in the H.O.G. Mileage Program!

Please click here to download the write up If you have any questions regarding the contests please e-mail the Safety Officer, Roi – roi.hogmalaysia@yahoo.com

Motorcycling is primarily a solo activity, but for many, riding as a group -- whether with friends on a Sunday morning ride or with an organized motorcycle rally -- is the epitome of the motorcycling experience. Here are some tips to help ensure a fun and safe group ride:

  • Arrive prepared. Arrive on time with a full gas tank.
  • Hold a riders’ meeting. Discuss things like the route, rest and fuel stops, and hand signals.
  • Assign a lead and sweep (tail) rider. Both should be experienced riders
who are well-versed in group riding procedures. The leader should assess everyone’s riding skills and the group’s riding style.
  • Keep the group to a manageable size, ideally five to seven riders. If necessary, break the group into smaller sub-groups, each with a lead and sweep rider.
  • Ride prepared. At least one rider in each group should pack a cell phone, first-aid kit, and full tool kit, so the group is prepared for any problem that they might encounter.
  • Ride in formation. The staggered riding formation allows a proper space
cushion between motorcycles so that each rider has enough time and space to maneuver and to react to hazards. The leader rides in the left third of the lane, while the next rider stays at least one
second behind in the right third of the lane; the rest of the group follows the same pattern. A
single-file formation is preferred on a curvy road, under conditions of poor visibility or poor road surfaces, entering/leaving highways, or other situations where an increased space cushion or maneuvering room is needed.
Avoid side-by-side formations, as they reduce the space cushion. If you suddenly needed to swerve to avoid a hazard, you would not have room to do so. You don’t want handlebars to get entangled.
  • Periodically check the riders following in your rear view mirror. If you see a rider falling behind, slow down so they may catch up. If all the riders in the group use this technique, the group should be able to maintain a fairly steady speed without pressure to ride too fast to catch up.
If you’re separated from the group, don’t panic. Your group should have a pre-planned procedure in place to regroup. Don’t break the law or ride beyond your skills to catch up.
  • For mechanical or medical problems, use a cell phone to call for assistance as the situation
    warrants.

Official Events My fellow HOG brothers and sisters,

We have for the past four years been running the Chapter without a dealership. We have not only managed to keep it running but also have enhanced its image worldwide. It has been a tough and difficult road that we have traveled but yet we prevailed. The Chapter is what it is today because of your continuous commitment and support for its activities and events.

This 20th October, another milestone will be added to the Chapter’s history. The opening of the new Dealership will herald a better and brighter future for the Chapter and its members in the form of technical support and of course, some financial support too.

Naza Prestige Bikes Sdn. Bhd. are not new to the motorbike industry. The management knows and often acknowledges our Chapter to be one of the more dynamic Chapters in the Asia-Pacific region and are prepared to support the Chapter to the best of their abilities.

Many incentives and rewards schemes have been discussed but yet to be finalized, are to be offered to Chapter members only. The dealership has already sponsored the Chapter with funds for our past rallies and are also sponsoring a MPV solely for the Chapter’s use.

So, I call upon you, our Chapter members to gather in strength and unity to reciprocate the faith, confidence and support of the Dealership by attending en masse the Dealership’s opening ceremony and make it the event of the year and at the same time partake in some great food and entertainment arranged by the Dealership.

We shall stage from A&W, Petaling Jaya (next to Kelab Syabas) by 6.00pm and push-off by 6.45pm.

Let us all ride as if in a parade from the A&W to the Dealership. Let us show the others our unity and solidarity. Let us also show the public our beautiful, gleaming machines and our riding skills and discipline.

LETS MAKE A LOUD STATEMENT UPON OUR ENTRANCE!!

Choo Kai Mun
Director

Official Events “ This is one of the 10 things you have to do in the world before you die” (Max Walker – Queensland, Australia.)

23rd August 2008

Finally, I am here at the KL International Airport., boarding pass in hand, baggage all squared away. My traveling partner, Johnny Soo and I boarded the plane and settled down to a long 17 hour flight to Los Angeles. Our flight had a brief stopover in Taipei, Taiwan.

It was an uneventful flight across the Pacific Ocean, interspersed with fitful bouts of napping due to my emotions of excitement and anticipation of that, here I was, a step closer to my dream of participating in an Anniversary Celebration of The Motor Company. A dream I nurtured since the day I got my first Harley.
